Topic is the subject matter of the research paper.





Topic statement is a sentence stating what the subject matter of the research paper is.





Problem statement is a sentence stating a particular condition of the topic, basically a more narrowly-focussed topic statement.





Hypothesis is a sentence detailing your thought(s) on the problem - how it came about, what will happen if it continues unchecked, how to "fix" the problem, etc.





Scope and delimitation is what specific issues, timeframes, people, places, events, etc you will (scope) and won't (delimitation(s)) be addressing in your research paper.
