Is there a word to define music from the late 80's/early 90's?

I'm thinking of the music from approximately 1988-1992. It was sort of a transitional period between 80's pop/R%26amp;B and 90's dance/R%26amp;B. Think Vanessa Williams, Black Box, Kylie Minogue, Technotronic, C%26amp;C Music Factory, etc. Is there a word for it?

I called it "bad."
Reply:well i like the cure/depeche mode type bands and the are called indie (independent) rock, or 80s pop
Reply:That was when I was in college and "grunge" music was the big rage. That's what I think of when you mention that time period of music.
